Using taxpayer money to initiate lawsuits hurts our children.  Money entrusted to the schools should be used for the students education.

Nebraska Kelsey Smith Act Passes Committee

My wife, Missey, testified in front of the committee and I submitted written testimony in support of the bill.

The bill drew support from the Nebraska State Patrol and state firefighters association, as well as lobbyists with AT&T and Verizon during a public hearing before the Legislature’s Transportation and Telecommunications Committee on Monday.

“We’re very sorry this happened,” said the Verizon lobbyist, Curt Bromm. The company, he said, had a protocol that required assistance during emergencies, but it apparently wasn’t followed in the Kelsey Smith case.

Kelsey Smith Act in Nebraska Unicameral

The Kelsey Smith Act, LB 735, introduced by Sen. Tim Gay of Papillion in the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature on January 6, 2010, was prompted by the 2007 abduction and murder of 18-year-old Kelsey Smith in Kansas.

Missey will travel to Lincoln to testify in support of the bill on February 1st. Information about the proceedings in Nebraska can be found on the Nebraska Legislature Website at http://www.nebraskalegislature.gov/.

A Response to the State of the Union

HB 2226

Representative Lance Kinzer has sponsored a bill that I believe takes a strong stand towards protecting crime victim's rights.  HB 2226 - AN ACT concerning criminal procedure; relating to grand juries; amending K.S.A.
