So, what about those Republican health care plans?

Kansas Education Finance

I strongly urge everyone to read the Kansas Policy Institute's excellent work on this subject entitled A Kansas Primer On Education Funding.  The research is impecable and the information is quite eye opening.  In the Preface of the work the author states, "Despite the unprecedented controversy, surprisingly little is understood about how much money schools actually receive, how that money is spent or even the basis upon which the court ruled in Montoy."  The author is right on the mark with that assessment.

HF 2639 Passes Committee

HF 2639 unamiously passed out of the House committee on Friday in Minnesota.  This is the companion bill to the Senate Bill, the Kelsey Smith Act.  Both Missey and I testified on the bill at the committee hearing.

SF 2470 Amended and Recommended to Pass in Minnesota.

SF 2470 was amended today by the bill's sponsor, Senator Yvonne Prettner Solon, to offically be called the Kelsey Smith Act. The law and/or bill is now official Kelsey's Law in three states, Kansas, Nebraska and Minnesota. The bill was unamiously recommended to be passed and now heads to the Senate Judiciary Committee for a hearing.

Tomorrow, February 19, Missey and I will testify in front of the House Committee in Minnesota in favor of HF 2639.

Sunflower Republican Legislative Issues Breakfast

I attended the  Sunflower Republicans Legislative Issues Breakfast this morning. Thank you to all the Kansas legislators who spoke about issues being worked on in Topeka. Very informative.   Also a thank you to the candidates for the 3rd Congressional District who each spoke briefly about their candidacy.

HB 2226 Carried on House Floor Today

Representative Lance Kinzer carried HB 2226 on the Kansas House of Representatives floor today. A vote by the full House will take place on Monday, February 15, 2010.

HB 2226 is the bill that would modify when grand juries are called in Kansas, particularly for off-grid felonies.  I support this bill and would like to see its passage.
