The Heritage Foundation - Job Creation 101: Tax Hikes Don't Work

According to the Heritage Foundation, "To sum it up, all the bailouts and the allegedly job-creating stimulus packages have failed to sustainably improve the economy. Yet the current administration continues to enact flawed economic policies that siphon money out of the private sector and into the vastly more expensive public sector. This redistribution of wealth, financed by heavy taxation and ever-larger deficits, will further slow job creation and economic recovery."

Kelsey Smith Act in Pennsylvania

While attending an event for NOVA in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with Missey, we had the fortunate experience to meet with state legislators who are interested in getting the Kelsey Smith Act passed in that state. Thank you to all of you we met who expressed support for the Act. I look forward to working with you to pass it in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Job Creation in Kansas...

I was doing research about creating jobs to improve our economy. Creating jobs is a good thing, right? I certainly want to create more jobs for Kansans when I get to the State House in Topeka. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see an article entitled "10 Best Cities for the Next Decade" that listed Topeka, Kansas as one of the ten. The article's bold print claiims, " They're prosperous, innovative, and they'll generate plenty of jobs, too."

The Impact on Kansas Doctors From Healthcare "Reform"

More and more evidence is coming to light on how the changes to our health care will damage the quality of care and raise expenses to both doctors and to us.

A recent Kansas Liberty article suggests that Kansas doctors will "opt - out" and refuse to take Medicaid/Medicare or private insurance patients. They will change their practices to a strict pay as you go style business.

Kansas Economic Freedom Index

I found some interesting articles today while researching issues on the Internet (http://wichitaliberty.org/kansas-economic-freedom-index/ and http://wichitaliberty.org/kansas-government/kansas-economic-freedom-inde...). Both were written by Bob Weeks out of Wichita, KS. Mr. Weeks rates each state senator and representative on their votes on economic issues. Weeks uses the late Milton Friedman, a 1976 Nobel prize winner in Economics, as his guide (http://www.hoover.org/bios/friedman.html).

Kansas State Board of Education Votes to Discontinue Quest for Federal Funds

The Kansas State Board of Education in a vote of 9 - 0 last month decided to quit competing for Federal funding for education via the "Race to the Top" initiative. The state of Kansas ranked 29th out of the 41 states competing for the Federal money and was cut from the first round of the competition. Plans were in the works to re-submit for the second round of competition this June but the Board's vote stopped that plan.
