GREG SMITH PUSHES FOR SCHOOL SAFETY INITIATIVE

Smith Testifies in Support of Legislation Modeled After Jeanne Clery Act

Overland Park, KS …Yesterday State Representative and Republican State Senate candidate Greg Smith testified in support of his legislation modeled after the Jeanne Clery Act to provide greater transparency about crimes committed on K-12 Public School Campuses to parents, students, and employees.

Kelsey Smith Act in Hawaii

The Kelsey Smith Act is scheduled to have a hearing in the Hawaii Legislature on January 26, 2012 at 2:50 PM HAST. Hawaii State Senator Will Espero is the lead sponsor of SB 2247. The bill will be heard in the Senate Committee on Public Safety, Government Operations, and Military Affairs that Senator Espero also chairs. Co-sponsors of the bill are Senators Michelle Kidani, who is vice chair of the committee, Clarence Nishihara, Pohai Ryan, Carol Fukunaga, and Mike Gabbard.

Governor’s Career Readiness Summit to Be Live-Streamed

Wichita – The 2012 Governor’s Career Readiness Summit has reached capacity and registration for the event scheduled for next Wednesday, January 18th is now closed.

Legislative Breakfast Series - Rep. Smith to be a Featured Speaker Next Saturday, January 21

The Overland Park Chamber of Commerce and the Johnson County Public Policy Council sponsor the Legislative Breakfast Series to enhance the communication and exchange of information between the business community and the Johnson County state legislative delegation. Legislators will be in attendance to discuss issues and offer the most current legislative updates. Casual attire is requested. Breakfast is served promptly at 7:30 a.m.

Governor: Kansas, a State in Transition

Topeka – Kansas Governor Sam Brownback pointed to how Kansas is a state in transition as he revealed his pro-growth tax reform plan during his State of the State speech tonight.

“A year ago we met here facing two enormous challenges---a stagnant economy with fewer Kansans employed - and a big budget deficit. Many states across the country were struggling, but in 2010, Kansas ranked among the worst in private sector job creation. Working together, we acted,” Gov. Brownback told the Kansas Legislature.

Topeka – Kansans wanting to watch or listen to Governor Sam Brownback’s 2012 State of the State address Wednesday evening will have dozens of media outlets across Kansas to choose from. The following are the known media outlets that will broadcast the speech live beginning at 6:30 p.m:
